This Pink Well Challenge video was produced by Foster Productions and edited by IDEAS Orlando in support of Libby’s Legacy. All of their time and resources were donated for this production.

Afraid you will forget to vote? Send us your link!

Libby’s Legacy can ensure that your vote is counted every day from each of your email accounts. Forward your link to pinkwell@libbyslegacy.org. In addition, we can provide you with a text to help remind you to vote from your Facebook and Twitter accounts each day as well. Just include your phone number in your message. It’s that simple!

*Your email addresses will not be placed on a mailing list. It is just collected by Pink Well to ensure that each e-mail address only votes once and by Libby’s Legacy to help ensure that your vote is counted each day until May 15.

Blog on StarLite for IDEAS

Check out my latest blog for IDEAS: StarLite Film Festival Screenwriting Panel

It documents my experience as a speaker on the Microbudget Screenwriting Panel at the StarLite Film Festival.

The Process

After attending the Microbudget Screenwriting Panel for the StarLite Film Festival, I began thinking about the process of developing a good story. I am currently writing my first feature film, making the topic poignant at this time in my life. It is my belief that an interesting story may lead to many things including a respectable script, a trusting producer, creative acting, dramatic lighting, inspiring music, maybe even a decent movie… But it all starts with the story. Everyone operates differently, so the process is never the same, but here is a peek into my brain. My process.

When a concept is born, it is always best to nurture the idea for a few days; let my imagination run wild. Once I have a clear picture in my head of a driving scene, the characters come to life and I begin to see motivators and basic plot points more clearly. Then I like to break out the note cards! Because I am a visual person, it is easiest for me to plot a course for my imaginary friends on cards. I then hang them up on my magnetic board (best $15 I ever spent), and form an outline. If something doesn’t fit, the card can easily be pushed down, pulled up, or removed all together. One rule that I try to write by: The scene you are in must be caused by the scene that came before, and must cause the scene that comes after. This should propel constant development of themes, character, and story. It is harder to tastefully intertwine foreshadowing, subplots, and the almighty twist, but as long as the outline and structure are strong, the details can be flushed out with time.

That is my process, or at least the beginning of it. Now I suggest you invent your own. Find a place that is conducive to your creativity. Sit with your thoughts and a cup of coffee (or liquor, whatever works for you) and let the ideas flow through your fingers. If all else fails, go to sleep. 4 a.m. is always when the best ideas come.

StarLite Microbudget Screenwriting Panel

What a morning! I was very happy to sit on the Microbudget Screenwriting Panel at the StarLite Film Festival. It was a delight to speak to an audience about my film-making and screenwriting experiences. I learned a lot and made some new friends to boot. On my way to view some of the films and to celebrate at the awards ceremony! Should be a great time. Big Thank You to StarLite, The Garden Theatre, and Bob Allen.

StarLite Film Festival

I will be speaking on a Microbudget Screenwriting Panel at the StarLite Film Festival on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11:00am.
