Press Release – Hodges Film Announces Production of Beyond the Diagnosis
Boston, MA – 9/25/2025 – Hodges Film is proud to announce that production has officially begun on Beyond the Diagnosis, a feature-length documentary exploring the stories of those living with and affected by Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
Directed by filmmaker Rebecca Hodges, in association with the nonprofit Touched by Type 1 and Executive Producer Elizabeth Forrest, the film will shine a light on the challenges and resilience of individuals navigating life with T1D, while amplifying the work of researchers, advocates, and communities pushing toward a cure.
“Every day, someone hears the words, ‘You have type 1 diabetes.’ This diagnosis rewrites lives, but it doesn’t define them,” says director Rebecca Hodges. “This film aims to bring their stories to the forefront, spark awareness, and inspire meaningful change.”
The film’s cinematography is led by award-winning filmmaker Boyd Hobbs, whose work has been featured in national campaigns and recognized at festivals across the country. Boyd and Rebecca have been creative collaborators since their days at Full Sail University, building a trusted partnership that continues to shape their storytelling. Their shared vision and long-standing working relationship bring both artistry and authenticity to Beyond the Diagnosis.
Principal photography is set to begin at the end of October, with filming kicking off in Orlando, FL, at the 25th Annual Dancing for Diabetes fundraiser at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. The project will also film in multiple locations across the United States – including Boston, Miami, and Los Angeles – capturing intimate portraits of families, medical experts, athletes, artists, and advocates who are reshaping what it means to live with T1D.
Beyond the Diagnosis is currently in pre-production, with Phase 1 funding nearly complete. On Wednesday, October 1, we’ll be launching our crowdfunding campaign – an opportunity for the T1D community and its supporters to come together, share their voices, and help bring this film to life. Alongside the campaign, our team is connecting with sponsors, investors, grant partners, and advocates who believe in amplifying these important stories.
